Work experience can help an individual learn more about a desired career by gaining valuable and practical knowledge. It can also help to develop aspirations for previously unconsidered career options.
The Careers Engagement team help to coordinate safe and meaningful work experience placements for those interested in pursuing a career within the NHS. We offer 1 to 2 days depending on department availability.
Work experience is only open to those aged 16 years and over (anyone under the age of 18 years must have the signed consent of their parent or guardian).
For those under 16 years of age we can offer virtual online work experience links.
If you wish to enquire about arranging a work experience placement, please email: learningdevelopment@ncic.nhs.uk
Once you have sent your enquiry to learningdevelopment@ncic.nhs.uk, the next steps are:
- You will receive a digital form to complete
- After receiving the form, we will do our best to find a suitable placement for you
- Once a placement has been confirmed, we will send you a confirmation email which details your personalised programme. This will include dates, times, relevant contact information, your placement agreement and guidelines about shadowing. If for any reason we can't accommodate your request, we will do our best to offer an appropriate alternative.
- On the first day of your placement, you will be met by your nominated contact. You will be issued with a visitors badge and a local induction checklist will be completed.
- Once you have completed your placement, you will be sent an evaluation form to complete and issued a certificate of achievement.
