A contribution of a quarter of a million pounds has been given towards the extension and refurbishment costs Brampton War Memorial Hospital.
The kind donation was handed over to Trust's finance director by the chair of the local League of Friends charity recently.
Michael Smillie, executive director for finance, digital and estates, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to the League of Friends for their extremely kind contribution to the excellent extension we now have to the inpatient ward at Brampton hospital. The ward is now right up to date and has a much improved environment to patients and staff. I would like to also thank all those who have donated to the Brampton league of friends over the years, securing the future of the hospital and enabling the improvements to the inpatient ward as this is really their legacy.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the League of Friends to support continued investment in the hospital.”
John Holland the chair of Brampton League of Friends said:
“This was the final step to get the hospital refurbished, there have been times that we thought this would never happen, we were concerned that the hospital would close that it would be just a clinic with no overnight stays, but this has meant that a really good job has been done. Postlethwaite [builders] have done an outstanding job the place is a picture, it’s really well designed, the patients love it the staff love it and I hope the management of the NHS Trust also love it.”
After being closed for some months to enable the £1m renovations and extension to be undertaken, the hospital ward re-opened for admissions in July this year.
