Nursesday1.jpgNorth Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) is proud to mark International Nurses Day today. We are taking the opportunity to recognise and thank our nursing workforce for their dedication, professionalism and compassion.

Celebrated on 12th May, the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, International Nurses Day is a moment to reflect on the invaluable contribution nurses make every day across ourNursesDay2.jpg services.

Our nurses provide high-quality, patient-centred care in what are often complex and challenging circumstances. Their work is not easy with increasing demand, evolving services and the pace of change in healthcare which can all present daily challenges. Despite this, nursing teams remain committed to delivering safe, compassionate care and supporting patients and their families when they need it most.

At the same time, nurses are playing a key role in embracing new ways of working. Through innovations such as virtual wards and digital health tools, they are helping more patients to receive care at home, improving experience while easing pressure on hospital services. These developments demonstrate how nursing is helping to shape a more sustainable future for healthcare.

Dr Gill Findley, Chief Nurse at NCIC, said: "International Nurses Day is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible dedication, skill and compassion of our nursing teams. Our nurses are not only delivering outstanding care today - they are leading the way in shaping the future of healthcare.

"Through digital innovations, our nurses are helping to redesign services around patients’ needs. They are combining clinical expertise with technology to ensure care is more accessible, personalised and sustainable for the future."

Despite the rapid pace of change, the core of nursing remains the same: providing safe, kind and patient-centred care. Whether supporting people in hospital, visiting them at home, or monitoring them remotely, nurses continue to make a difference every day.

Gill added: "I am incredibly proud of our nurses. They are the backbone of our organisation and a constant source of strength and reassurance for our patients. As we look to the future, it is clear that nursing will continue to lead innovation while staying true to its compassionate roots."
