Dr Yee Mon Aung has been appointed as a substantive consultant paediatrician at West Cumberland Hospital.Yee Mon Aung.jpg

Dr Aung joined NCIC in 2018 as a specialty doctor and was then subsequently appointed as a locum consultant paediatrician at WCH. She then applied for speciality registration through the Certificate of Eligibility to GMC specailist register (CESR) route to become a substantive consultant.

Dr Aung said: “I am passionate about providing the best care to babies, children and their families.

“I’ve been given lots of management opportunities and found improvement opportunities, working in a small but well linked strong team and I am delighted to have been made a substantive consultant in the team.”

She also described what the CESR route is and how it differs from other training:

“CESR - is the Certification of Eligibility to GMC specialist register – you have to show all of the competencies equivalent to national training over the last five years, then the GMC and Royal College of Paediatrics do the assessments.

“Once successful, after assessment from GMC and RCPCH, you get specialist registration from GMC for that speciality (mine is general paediatrics). The traditional paediatric training lasts for a total of eight years in the UK.”

Dr Aung has some advice for anyone thinking of following this route. She said: “Work hard and you will find more and more opportunities.

“NCIC is the best place which has given me such opportunities to work as a locum consultant which has opened up more management and leadership opportunities and challenges which has led me down the path of success. I am looking forward to more challenges and continuing as I am.”
