We are launching free virtual work experience programmes for students.
Work experience has been paused due to the pandemic but now the Trust is able to offer this unique virtual experience to the next generation of budding health professionals.
Suzan Hunter, Workforce Development and Engagement Co-ordinator:
“Being able to offer work experience to those with an interest in a health career is vital in developing the future workforce and helping young people experience the environment first hand.
“We have a nursing and midwifery programme and an allied health professional programme. They are both online, delivered virtually and youngsters can discover different career pathways within these professions before delving into each speciality in more detail. They will also learn more about how exactly to prepare for a career in an NHS - with a focus on the key skill of communication.”
There will be live workshops with professionals with the opportunity to ask questions as well as activities and assignments to undertake. Each student who completes the course will be given a certificate.
Both programmes - aimed at students currently in education in Cumbria, aged 14 to 18 - will take place during half term, starting on the 25th October. Due to limited spaces, applications will close on 19th October.
The programs available are:
(includes Art Therapists; Drama therapists; Music therapists; Chiropodists/podiatrists; Dietitians; Occupational therapists; Operating Department Practitioners; Orthoptists; Osteopaths; Paramedics; Physiotherapists; Prosthetists and Orthotists; Radiographers and Speech and language therapists.)
The programmes are free and students will gain practical skills and knowledge that they will be able to add the experience to their CV. Each student who completes the programme will also get a certificate.
