We've had a truly special week here at NCIC celebrating Dementia Awareness Week — full of colour, connection, and community spirit.
We brightened up the ward and outer landing with Forget-Me-Not flowers and dementia information, bringing a cheerful pop of colour that’s caught the eye of patients and visitors.
Staff at the Cumberland Infirmary organised some informative stands in the atrium and there was a packed programme of content on Elm C, including relaxing spa treatments.
Ellerbeck Ward in Workington also got involved with a host of activities.
On Tuesday at the West Cumberland Hospital, the wonderful Rose Finn joined us with her acoustic set. Her mix of Irish favourites, patient requests, and her own heartfelt songs had everyone singing along — her visits are always a highlight. At CIC, singer Helena Lockwood entertained patients and a puppet called The Major popped by to say hi. Volunteer Barry Norris also entertained patients in Carlisle. Thank you!
Throughout the week, we’ve kept spirits high with quizzes, crafts, and even a round of Play Your Cards Right — a nod to the classic Bruce Forsyth game show.
Our creative corner featured diamond art making, and we’re so thankful to Karen Scott from Karen’s Bakes for the delicious cupcakes and tray bakes she provided — always going the extra mile for both patients and staff.
A big shout out also to Marie and her craft group from a local fabric and wool shop, who donated beautiful crocheted granny squares and quilted sensory lap mats — colourful, textured, and made with love.
West ended the week with a musical treat from Mark, who visited with Susie Tate from Healing Arts and Jenn from Rosehill Theatre. Mark’s fiddle playing brought a unique, joyful energy that our patients thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you to everyone who supported and participated — your kindness, talent, and time brought smiles and comfort to so many.
