This week three nurses from NCIC travelled to Birmingham to accept a national award for technology that has improved patient care, team organisation, and staff safety.
The three Queen's Nurses accepted the award on behalf of everyone involved in successfully implementing the e-Community system, including Community Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Health Care Support Workers, and the Senior Leadership Team.
The team won the 'Outstanding Care Across Non-Acute Settings' category at the RLDatix Awards Europe 2025. The awards ceremony took on Tuesday (21st October), which was attended by over 1000 people.
The e-Community tool helps patients and staff in a number of ways, including:
- Protecting staff: e-Community has a map that tracks where staff are, which means staff feel safer and help can be deployed quickly if needed
- Managing time: if an appointment is taking longer than usual the tool allows the team to schedule someone to support with the other appointments
- Holistic care: staff can see and act on all the activity around a patient's care at the same time, including wound care, observations, risk assessments etc.
- Planning: e-Community helps the team to understand clearly the level of demand and staff availability, and plan effectively
Salli Pilcher, Community Collaborative Lead Nurse, was there to pick up the award alongside Gemma Kerr-Moonie and Rebecca Simpson, District Nursing team leads. Salli said:
"We were absolutely thrilled to pick this award up on behalf of everyone in the Community Collaborative. Everyone has worked so hard over the last four years to get to where we are.
"We have had our ups and downs when the system was first introduced, but we now have a scheduling tool that supports us to demonstrate the work we do in patients' homes and in the community. eCommunity helps to shape the way care is delivered, gives us meaningful data and improves the care we deliver to our patients.
"This is important as in the community we see some of our most vulnerable and isolated patients, and we want to make sure we provide the best care possible."
Paul Saunders, President UK&I, RLDatix, said: “Congratulations to our winners. The work behind Empowering Community Nursing Through eCommunity shows what can be achieved when teams are committed to making care safer and better for everyone. It is a privilege to recognise your work."
