From March 2026, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) will be introducing the first phase of a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system called Miya Precision. This marks the start of Phase 1 of our go‑live programme, which will continue over the next year as we gradually move from paper records to digital records.

Please note: You are unlikely to notice any changes during your hospital visit, and you do not need to do anything differently.

Why this change is happening

For many years, NCIC has relied on paper records that are physically transported between our sites by vans, porters and internal teams - a system that can sometimes make it harder for authorised clinical staff to access information as efficiently as they would like.

Our new EPR will allow authorised clinical staff to securely access your health information on NCIC laptops and iPads, wherever they are in the Trust. This will support safer, faster and more coordinated care.

What this means for you

  • The way we store and manage your information is changing, but the purpose remains the same: to support your care.
  • Your information will continue to be handled securely and in line with data protection law.
  • You are unlikely to notice any difference during hospital visits.
  • Over the coming months, our teams will be getting used to new digital ways of working. We appreciate your patience as we make this important improvement.

What stays the same

  • Your rights under data protection law
  • How you access your information
  • Our commitment to confidentiality and high‑quality care

What you may notice

Most patients will not see any change. However, you may occasionally see staff using a new system on their laptops and iPads, and some tasks may take slightly longer at first as they familiarise themselves with the new system.

Our commitment

This upgrade is an important step toward a more modern, efficient and joined‑up NHS in North Cumbria. It will help our clinicians spend more time focusing on you and less time searching for paper notes.

If you have any questions about how your information is used, you can speak to a member of staff at any time.

You can read more about how we use patient information in our full Privacy Notice on the NCIC website.

This notice is part of NCIC’s commitment for UK GDPR transparency requirements.
