We will be sharing more maternity data each month following feedback from families.

In May, there were 233 births across north Cumbria. The most common birth dates were 10th, 13th, and 16th but only 4.3% were born on their due date. Baby graphic May.jpg

Previously, we have shared a graphic each month with data such as the number of babies born and where, how many girls, boys and twins. However, there was an appetite for more in-depth data such as types of birth and induced labour outcomes.

Jo McNabb, Matron for Maternity Services, said: “We’re proud to have a CQC rating of good, but we are always striving to improve even further. Families having access to the data and information they’re looking for is really important to us. We took on board the feedback and will now share more in-depth data each month. We hope this is helpful and we will continue to take on board any feedback you have about this new format.”

Going forward, we will be sharing more data each month alongside the usual graphic on our Facebook page. Data will include:

  • Most common birth date
  • Babies breastfeeding at birth
  • Babies born at term (37 weeks or over) weights ranged from 4lbs 5oz to 10lbs 6oz
  • Number of births at Cumberland Infirmary
Number of births at West Cumberland Hospital
    Number of home births
  • % of babies born on due date
  • % of Skin to Skin contact at or soon after birth
  • Types of birth
    • Number of mothers used a pool during labour
    • % of vaginal births
    • % of assisted births (Ventouse or Forceps used)
    • % of caesarean births
    • % of vaginal birth after previous caesarean birth
  • Induced labours had outcomes of:
    • % of vaginal births
    • % of assisted births (Ventouse or Forceps used)
    • % of caesarean births
