This advice will help your mouth heal quickly and uneventfully after having teeth taken out.
1. Don’t rinse your mouth for the rest of the day.
2. Have a soft diet and avoid hot foods and drinks, smoking, alcohol and physical exertion for the rest of the day.
3. In case of bleeding, bite firmly on a damp pad of gauze or clean handkerchief. Keep your mouth closed tightly for at least fifteen minutes. Repeat if necessary.
4. A normal dose of the painkiller used for headaches, should be taken before the anaesthetic wears off and repeated, if necessary, at the recommended intervals.
5. Starting the day after your extractions a mouthwash of two teaspoonfuls of salt in a mug of warm water should be used twice a day for the following week. This will help with healing.
Don’t forget to keep the rest of the teeth clean.
6. After surgical extraction some swelling and bruising is likely.
This will normally settle within 7 to 10 days.
