The speed limit around the Cumberland Infirmary has been reduced from 20mph to 10mph because of safety concerns.
Signs are currently in the process of being changed around the two hospital sites to advertise the new 10mph limit.
Steve Pearson, Contract Director for Mitie, said: “Issues were raised around safety and the sites being congested due to a number of reasons.
“There are a number of major capital projects ongoing at CIC causing congesting as well as increased clinics and electives, plus the introduction of new visiting times. All of these have caused major vehicle congestion around the sites therefore a decision was made to collectively lower the speed limit as an added precaution.”
The speed limit at WCH is already 10mph.
