After 37 years in the NHS, Emergency Medicine Consultant, Claire Summers will leave at the end of July. Claire qualified as a doctor back in 1983 and joined the team at West Cumberland Emergency Department in 2007. Claire was joined by her colleagues today to say goodbye as they wish her well for the future. Claire’s vast knowledge and experience will be missed by her colleagues, who turned up to today to show their appreciation for the Consultant.  Claire will leave after 13 years to pursue a Masters in Philosophy and Religion at the University of Lancaster. Claire said ‘The part I will miss the most is the patients themselves and the incredible team, they really have been great to work alongside.’ Claire described how the use of new technology within the department had been one of the biggest challenges she had faced during her lengthy career. When asked what her one piece of advice for her colleagues would be she replied ‘to always look after each other’ wise words from a much loved member of staff.

We wish Claire well in her retirement and lots of luck with the dog she plans to get next year!
