NHS staff from across north Cumbria’s inpatient wards and departments have been getting into the jubilee spirit.

Bunting has been decked, flags raised and jubilee souvenirs are at the ready.

Staff governor Jessie McCarron has gone to great lengths to help support the wards in West Cumberland Hospital to celebrate the jubilee.

She explained: “I was gifted vouchers from Morrisons and Tesco Community Champions and I’ve given £50 to some of the wards and departments to put towards food etc for staff and patient buffets.”

In Ward 2 at WCH the staff have put a lot of thought and effort into how to involve the patients and staff over the bank holiday weekend. Matron Rebecca Carter explained: “The ward plans to provide each patient on the ward with personalised ward 2 jubilee mugs (can be seen in attached images), personalised chocolates and jubilee flag. They will also be offered a trifle and jubilee mocktail.  They have also planned fun activities for the patients and staff over the bank holiday weekend, including jubilee bingo, quizzes, dot to dots and pictures. The ward has also been decorated to reflect the celebrations.”

Ward 4 at WCH have decorated their areas with artwork donated by Whitehaven academy and the Copeland unit have a life size Queen on the ward!

At the Cumberland infirmary the bunting is also displayed across wards with Hazel ward even going as far as showcasing the whole of the Queen’s reign as a timeline and Maple A have recreated the Royal Balcony on their nurses station.

The Isel ward at Cockermouth community hospital and corridors at Maryport Hospital are covered in red white and blue and is a cheery welcome for patients and visitors. The community nurses offices in Eden, Keswick and Solway and the dental centre at the Cumberland Infirmary are also festooned in red white and blue.
