North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC), construction company GRAHAM and Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust will hold a joint recruitment event at West Cumberland Hospital on Saturday 8th October.

The event will be open to anyone who is interested in hearing more about the type of roles on offer such as: Health Care Assistants, Catering Staff, Portering roles and volunteering positions. GRAHAM will be looking to fill administrative roles as well as information on construction roles which will become available when the build gets underway in early 2023.

The hospital site in Whitehaven, is currently undergoing a £40 million redevelopment project, with GRAHAM being appointed the contractor to carry out the work.

The Trust is delighted to be working with GRAHAM to offer the chance for the local population to apply for roles within the hospital but also with the construction company.

On the day teams from both NCIC and GRAHAM will be on hand to answer questions and take details and information from prospective applicants.

Amanda Dunkley, Assistant Director of People Services for NCIC said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Whitehaven and the surrounding areas to get an insight into the job opportunities at West Cumberland Hospital. We will have staff members on hand ready to answer any questions on the roles as well as offer some practical advice on CV writing and interview techniques. If you’ve ever thought about a career within the NHS but weren’t sure where to start, this is the day for you!”

Damian McCabe, Contracts Manager at GRAHAM, commented:

“As contractors, we always work closely with the communities in which we operate. This opportunity in particular, allows us to support the local employee market, whilst keeping a really strong and open dialogue with the community. The event itself will provide plenty of information about the redevelopment project, and also provide routes for both administrative and construction roles at the Hospital. With such a large scale project, it is excellent to be able to provide longer term opportunities in the region”.

Phase two of the redevelopment of West Cumberland Hospital was given the green light at the beginning of the year and work has been ongoing to prepare the site for the new build.

Phase two of the plans include replacing up to 40% of the original hospital and building upon the £90m investment from phase one of the project which was completed in 2015. The new build will bring a huge upgrade in facilities for both patients and staff, creating an improved environment while keeping the number of beds and retaining services for the site.

Join us on the 8th of October from 10.30am- 3.00pm in the Education Centre at West Cumberland Hospital. The Education Centre can be found following the ring road round the hospital, on the left hand side. Parking can be found next to the centre.
