NCIC has developed an integrated musculoskeletal service (IMSK Service).

The improved service means that all non-urgent referrals from across the NHS will go through a single point of access (SPA).

Andy Reilly, MSK Transformation Lead, said: “The service improvements mean that patients will be seen by the right person, in the right place, and at the right time. We will do this by improving clinical triage and by redirecting referrals to more appropriate services where necessary. 

“We will reduce waiting times in the service and improve patient outcomes - subsequently improving the patient experience.

“We will also reduce the duplication of referrals of multiple MSK related services and avoid patients waiting on multiple MSK related waiting lists."

The service goes live on October 1.
