A career in the NHS can be incredibly rewarding and with over 350 different roles, there is something for almost everybody.

This National Careers Week, we have launched two new exciting virtual work experience programmes. This will allow young people and adults to learn more and understand the different career choices in the NHS and also the various routes available.

We currently offer two programmes, these are Nursing & Midwifery Work Experience and Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Work Experience. Those on the programme will discover different career pathways within these professions before delving into each specialty in more detail. They’ll also hear more about  the Trust and community healthcare, before learning about how exactly to prepare for a career in an NHS.

The virtual work experience is open to anybody over the age of 13 and attendees will receive a certificate on the completion of the programme.

Our Career Ambassadors are visiting schools this week to promote careers in the NHS to young people in Cumbria.

Victoria Tate is a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist at NCIC. She has  in our Adult Speech and Language Therapy service in Carlisle and Eden for 5 years now.

Victoria was inspired into an NHS career during her childhood. Victoria Tate.jpgShe said:

“I had a stammer as a child and received speech and language therapy for this and think fondly of the support myself and my family was offered to help me with my communication.

“What I love the most about my job is the variety. No two days or patients are the same. I enjoy meeting patients and providing assessment to diagnose. I then have the pleasure of supporting them in understanding their diagnosis, providing therapeutic treatments and techniques that will improve symptoms.

“I am really interested in continuing to support a patient’s journey after discharge in a community setting. Whether I am supporting the patient with their speech, language, communication or swallow, I always feel our patients and their loved ones are really appreciative.”

Victoria also enjoys fell walking, crafting and spending time with my loved ones in her spare time.
