Colin Burton Penrith Exercise bikes.jpgRespiratory patients in Penrith will now benefit from having two new top of the range exercise bikes following a kind donation from Penrith League of Friends.

Andrew Speight, Respiratory Physiotherapist, East Community Respiratory Team said:

“I approached the Penrith Hospital League of Friends to ask them if they could fund two exercise bikes for our Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes that we run for patients with respiratory conditions in the Penrith and Eden area. Chris Mitchell, Treasurer of Penrith League of Friends kindly ordered the bikes for us as well as mats for the bikes to go on when they are being used.

“Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and chronic respiratory conditions such as Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) are going to benefit. The exercise bikes will enhance the rehabilitation classes by helping patients improve their aerobic fitness. The patients will be able to gradually build up their exercise tolerance while also strengthening their legs.

“We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Penrith League of Friends for purchasing the bikes and their support in helping improve the Pulmonary Rehab classes in Penrith.”

Colin Burton, a patient who has recently completed the Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme at Penrith said: “I very much appreciated the bikes being provided and I have felt the benefit of being able to measure my progress as the bikes are able to measure the distance I have completed.”

The rehabilitation classes at the Evergreen Hall, Bluebell Lane, Penrith are on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12.45pm and 2.45pm. For more information and how to be referred contact the East Community Respiratory Team on 01228 602036
