This Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week, we’re shining a light on one of the most powerful yet often overlooked interventions available to people living with lung conditions.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR), known locally as our Better Breathing classes, makes more difference to quality of life and independence than any other single healthcare intervention.
Our East and West Community Respiratory Team offer a seven‑week programme of individually prescribed exercise and education, designed to help people understand their condition, build strength, manage breathlessness, and regain confidence in daily life. While it is the cornerstone of COPD management, its benefits reach far wider. Patients with asthma, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer and many other respiratory conditions have all been shown to gain significant improvements from taking part.
Jane Craig Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist and joint team lead at NCIC said:
“Patients who attend tell us they feel fitter, breathe easier, and cope better emotionally. Many ask to return because they enjoy the sessions so much and feel the difference they make. Yet despite these life‑changing outcomes, far too few of the people who would benefit actually get referred to the service and this is where we need your help.”
“If you have been diagnosed with a lung or respiratory condition o, you can self-refer directly to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation team. It’s quick, simple, and could transform your day‑to‑day life.”
This week is a reminder of just how impactful Pulmonary Rehab can be, but with your support, we can make that impact reach even further.
