A charity Spring bash to raise money for NCIC’s Special Care Baby Unit will be taking place early next month.

Harriet Storey has organised the event at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle on Saturday, May 4 to say thanks to staff at SCBU and the charity Neoangels at the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Harriet’s son, Conrad, made a surprise arrival into the world two years ago – arriving 12 weeks early!

Now Harriet wants to say thanks to SCBU staff and the neonatal unit in Middlesbrough for the care Conrad was given in his early days.

Harriet said: “On the night of May 14, 2022, our son Conrad, took us all by surprise making an arrival into the world 12 weeks early. Over the next eight weeks we were taken on a very unplanned journey.

“We spent the first five weeks in the Neonatal Unit at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

“During our time there, the Neoangels charity helped us out, providing us with discounted parking and a hot meal each day. This helped take the stress away and allowed us to concentrate on Conrad.

“As Conrad grew and his breathing support decreased, we were moved back to The Cumberland Infirmary. Back to the Special Care Baby Unit and the team who saved Conrad the night he made his unexpected appearance. The team who worked with speed - yet so calmly - to get Conrad in a stable condition minimising any chance of lasting effects of him being born so prematurely.”

Harriet said: “Conrad is now a confident and inquisitive nearly two-year-old and we cannot thank SCBU and Neoangels for everything they did for us.

“We’re hoping the charity bash will raise as much money as possible to support these two amazing causes.”
