Wards and departments across NCIC are preparing to celebrate the upcoming Coronation.

Coronation decs on ward.jpgKing Charles III will be crowned on May 6th and our teams are doing everything they can to make sure patients can celebrate alongside the nation. Catering colleagues across acute and community hospitals are arranging for afternoon teas to be made available for in patients and arrangements are being made for patients to watch the celebrations on TV.

Deputy chief nurse at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, Georgia Wright said: “All of our patients will have the opportunity to watch the events on the television over the whole weekend. Hospedia has offered a reduced daily rate and we have agreed to pay the difference using our charitable funds. This means that all patients will have the opportunity to watch the Coronation, the concert etc. - if they want to.”

Staff are also planning their celebrations with decorations popping up across departments and wards and some staff have been lucky enough to secure tickets from the ballot to attend. Kevin Harrow, matron at the Cumberland Infirmary, has been lucky enough to be allocated tickets for the NHS/military stand outside of Buckingham palace.

The Trust’s chaplaincy team is also marking the occasion. Hospital chaplain Ian Newton said: “On the Sunday of the Coronation Weekend 7th May at 2.30pm there will be a special service in the Cumberland Infirmary Chapel including a Celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III. Patients, staff and relatives are invited to attend.”
