Dr-Hipple.jpgNCIC’s Dr Laura Hipple has been elected as one of five Vice Presidents of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Dr Hipple, who is an Associate Specialist and SAS Lead/Tutor at NCIC, will take up the honorary role in December.

She said: “I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to have been elected by RCOG Council members to this position – not least because it is the first time ever that a SAS doctor has held such a position in the College.

“It is a big responsibility as there are lots of challenges in our profession currently – both nationally and internationally. But whatever role I am given as an RCOG Officer I will do my very best to try and make a positive difference for the doctors in our specialty and the women we serve.

“I don’t yet know what portfolio I will be given as the President Elect and Council will be deciding this now all the elections have taken place.”

Dr Ranee Thakar, President-Elect of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said: “I am delighted with the election of our new Vice Presidents, who represent a diverse range of clinicians and medical leaders of outstanding calibre. The breadth of their experience will be invaluable to the College and its members.

"I’m confident the new Officer team will champion women’s health to ensure that the care provided to women is of the highest quality and that our workforce is fully supported. I look forward to working closely with the Vice Presidents from December onwards, to strengthen the College’s influence as a global leader for reproductive healthcare, improving the health of women and girls worldwide."

Dr Hipple’s team said they were “thrilled” with the “excellent achievement” and “welcomed the news.”

NCIC’s Medical Director, Adrian Clements, congratulated Laura. He said: “An absolutely fantastic achievement and from what I have witnessed in my short time in Cumbria, well deserved. I am sure Laura will be able to use this position positively and for the greater good. Well done.”

Consultant Sam Dearman, Director of Medical Education at NCIC, said: “This is just an outstanding achievement, for herself personally of course but also to have someone so dedicated to services in Cumbria in a significant position of influence nationally and internationally.  Laura continues to work in our O&G services and is NCICs SAS tutor and SAS lead within Medical Education and MDDF.

“Well done indeed Laura.”

Deputy Medical Director, Dr Rod Harpin, said: “I cannot express enough in words how fantastic this is for you personally and our health system locally.”
