We can provide treatment and support if you have any of these conditions:
- epilepsy
- headache
- migraine
- multiple sclerosis (MS)
- neuralgia
- Parkinson's disease
- tremor symptoms
- other less common neurological conditions
If you're referred to Neurology, we'll invite you in for an assessment. During the appointment we’ll discuss your medical history, any medication you’re taking and the symptoms you’re experiencing. Depending on your symptoms, we may also do a few different tests, or refer you for some. These might include:
- blood tests
- physical exercises
- reflexes test
- speech test
- vision and eye movement test
- electroencephalogram (EEG)
- electromyography (EMG)
- nerve conduction studies (NCS)
- magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan
- specialist brain scan e.g. a single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)
Once we’ve reviewed your test results, we’ll invite you back for another appointment to discuss your diagnosis and go through your options in detail. Together we’ll create a treatment plan tailored to your needs. This could involve:
- a change to your medication
- new medication
- a referral to be assessed for surgery
Depending on your diagnosis, you may also be referred to other services for supportive treatments such as:
- Community Bladder and Bowel
- Dietetics
- Physiotherapy
- Psychology
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech and Language
By working closely with you, your family or carers and with other services, we aim to support you to stay at home wherever possible.
We work in close collaboration with renowned neuroscience departments in The Walton Centre in Liverpool, Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and the Neurology department in Preston.
