If you’re referred to us by your GP, you’ll be invited for an appointment with one of our consultants or a specialist nurse. During your appointment we’ll discuss your medical history and the symptoms you’re experiencing. We may need to examine you and send you for a scan too.
After we’ve assessed you, we’ll explain your options and discuss possible next steps. Many vascular conditions can be treated without surgery, so this may mean we can help you improve your symptoms through medication and changes to your diet and lifestyle.
Surgery
If surgery is required, we’ll explain what the operation will involve and what you can expect on the day. Depending on where you live and the type of surgery you need, this will either take place at Cumberland Infirmary or West Cumberland Hospital.
After surgery, we may refer you to other services to help you recover, such as Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. You may also be invited in for further outpatient appointments to see how you’re getting on.
