If you’ve been referred to one of our outpatient clinics, you’ll be invited in for an assessment with one of our specialists. During the appointment we’ll discuss your medical history and your symptoms. We’ll also examine you and may perform some tests such as:
- balance tests
- blood tests
- hearing tests
- or looking in your nose with a thin endoscope
This may be enough for us to agree on a plan for your treatment, or we may need to refer you for further assessments, tests and investigations such as:
- a biopsy
- allergy tests
- endoscopy
- more complex hearing tests
- scans e.g. MRI, CT or ultrasound
- speech and language tests
Once we’ve reviewed your results, we’ll invite you back for a follow up appointment to discuss your options. Together we’ll create a treatment plan tailored to your needs, this might include things like:
- new medication
- a surgical procedure
- referral to other services
You may also be seen by one of our specialist nurses for practical help and advice, support and education about your condition.
If you need surgery, we’ll explain the pros and cons of the procedure and what you can expect on the day of your appointment. Depending on the type of surgery you need, you’ll either be treated as a day patient or an inpatient.
